About

My name is Suki

I remember being 18 years old and about to become a mother, ironically the one thing I had wanted was not to be seen.  I wanted to blend into the background and be "normal" be the same as everyone else around me.

Little did I know this journey was to become my unveiling, my raw vulnerability was to become visible to the most important person in  my world, the one who had choices, the one in the driving seat, the one who needed to find the courage to ask for direction and that person was my authentic self. At times I had wished for a SatNav to simply tell me where to turn and what to do. However, that would never have taken me in the direction that I am  travelling now .

In 1997 I trained as a nursery nurse with the ambition of opening my own nursery, that wasn't to be and my direction changed. In 2004 I began my BSc (Hons) in Midwifery and as a student I volunteered and supported with a young mum's to be program. This led on and fuelled my interest in mental health conditions in pregnancy and the impact on fathers in the postpartum period and beyond.

Twelve years later and after my second child was born, my direction changed again.  I began working for the NHS in Public Health Nursing, supporting Children and Young People with their mental health. I have now worked in this role for over ten years and with a few bumps in the road, some feeling more like pot holes! (life events), I then began my counselling journey.  I completed my Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and during this time I worked with Hertfordshire Constabulary, supporting officers and emergency staff with their psychological wellbeing.

We are all human and life can be full of bumps, crashes and detours, sometimes the road can feel long and winding, this can be a hard place to find ourselves. However, with the courage to put the brakes on, give ourselves the time and maintenance required we can continue on our journeys.....

"The good life is a process, not a state of being. It is a direction not a destination", Carl Rogers.
